Within the framework of the G7 summit in Italy, President Javier Milei had several protocol meetings with international leaders, including the embrace with Pope Francis and the meeting with the Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva.
In Borgo Egnazia, Bari, Milei met with the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, who welcomed the President with a warm embrace. The two exchanged laughs, and then had a formal meeting, the first in the President’s busy schedule.
Moments later, Milei met Pope Francis in the G7 Plenary Hall, whom he greeted with a hug. The Supreme Pontiff is another of Meloni’s special guests, who has just received the Governor of the Province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof, at the Vatican.
In turn, Milei shook hands with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, who is going through a critical moment in his country within the framework of the electoral process. To the surprise of the French political class, Macron brought forward the legislative elections.
The President also met with his U.S. counterpart, Joe Biden, and did the same with the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida. However, there was no photo with Brazil’s President Lula da Silva, whom Milei saw up close while he was listening to a conference.
Another important meeting took place with the director of the Fund, after the international lending agency approved the disbursement of USD 800 million. Although the agency highlighted «the authorities’ efforts», it demanded the Government «to improve the quality of the fiscal adjustment and implement reforms to unlock growth, formal employment and investment».
Milei traveled together with the general secretary of the Presidency and sister, Karina Milei; the head of the Council of Economic Advisors, Demian Reidel; the Argentine ambassador to the United States, Gerardo Werthein and the PRO deputy Fernando Iglesias.
At the G7 summit, Milei met with the head of the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva.
