As important as Grammar is, vocabulary is just as –or sometimes even more– necessary! However, it can be hard to learn so many words, especially if you have to do it by heart! Something that usually helps is repetition, repetition, repetition. Therefore… what could be easier than repeating words that you have to use every day? For example, everything that you can find in your house!

THESE ARE THE ROOMS OF A HOUSE IN SPANISH:

La cocina = the kitchen
El living / la sala =the living room

Of course, don’t forget:

To conjugate the verbs! La cocina es… The kitchen is… / Los cuartos son… The rooms are…
To change the adjectives according to the noun! La cocina es luminosa = The kitchen is luminous / El baño es luminoso = The bathroom is luminous / Los cuartos son luminosos = The rooms are luminous

HOW TO DESCRIBE OUR HOME:

First, we should say if we live in a house (casa) or an apartment (departamento).

Vivo en una casa grande. Tiene tres pisos. En la planta baja están la sala, la cocina y el comedor. En el primer piso hay tres dormitorios, el mío, el de mi hermano y el de mis papás. El tercer piso es el ático, donde hay muchas cajas. Tenemos un jardín muy grande, con árboles y una pileta.

I live in a big house. It has three floors. On the first floor, there is the living room, the kitchen and the dining room. On the second floor, we have three bedrooms, mine, my brother’s and my parent’s. The third floor is the attic, where we have many boxes. We have a big garden with trees and a pool.

What about describing a room? Our own bedroom, for instance?

Mi cuarto es grande y luminoso, aunque está un poco desordenado. Tiene una ventana con cortinas azules. Hay una cama, un escritorio, un placard, una biblioteca y un puf. ¡El puf es muy cómodo! Las paredes son azules también y el piso es de madera. En la biblioteca guardo mis libros y en el placard, mi ropa. También tengo un poster de mi banda favorita en la puerta.

My room is big and luminous, a bit messy, though. There is a window with blue curtains. There is a bed, a closet, a bookcase, and a puff. The puff is really comfy! The walls are blue as well and the floor is wooden. I keep my books in the bookcase and my clothes in the closet. I also have a poster of my favorite band on the door.
